To start with, babies only need a small amount of solid food. To begin with, I introduced Thomas to a new flavour, every other day. He took to food really well and was soon ready to move onto two meals a day. I then gradually began introducing a variety of different food groups and combinations of flavours.
Get Weaning Ready with me…
On the build up to weaning, I couldn’t help but feeling quite anxious. As a first time mum, I didn’t really have a clue about how to wean or what to feed little man. I’ve always been someone who has struggled with food, i’m so fussy and I wanted to give Thomas’ the best start.
Don’t get me wrong, I was also really excited, it’s such a big step and its amazing watching them grow and explore new things. I’m definitely not an expert on food and nutrition, however I did my fair share of research before starting, and this is what we chose to do and why.
Lets face it, you need to take a lot when travelling with a baby! It can be quite a daunting experience. To make the packing process easier, I decided to write a list and break it down into sections such as feeding, sleeping, clothing etc. Writing a list this way, made the packing process much easier and we didn’t forget anything!
I you would like to find out what we took with us and why, keep on reading. You can also see a copy of my list at the end of the blog.
‘Tans fade, but memories last a lifetime’
As a new Mum, you don’t often have time for self care. Before little man was born, I used to love doing my nails and having a good pamper session. Now I find whenever I have any time to myself… which is very rare…I fill it with chores or taking the opportunity to sleep!
We’re about to go on our first holiday with Thomas and I decided to use this opportunity, as an excuse, to have some well needed me time. I mean after all, getting holiday ready is part of the excitement!
“Fed is best”
I had no intention of breast feeding while pregnant. I’m not really sure why, it just wasn’t for me. I have heard many times the quote above, ‘fed is best’, yet I still found the need to justify my decision not to breast feed my baby. So many people asked, how will you be feeding baby? Surly if my baby is fed it shouldn’t matter.
“9 months preparing…to fall in love for a lifetime”.
As many of you may know, I’ve had my beautiful baby boy Thomas John Mitchell. He was born on Wednesday 28th November, at 11:41am. Things didn’t go as planned, I guess they rarely do. It’s taken me a while to feel fully ready to share the whole story with you. It was 7 weeks ago now that my life changed forever, 7 weeks ago I became a mummy and 7 weeks ago I had my son.
What have I packed?…
I have been thinking about what to pack in my hospital bags for quite a while and I managed to find time to write yet another list! I decided I would pack my bag and baby’s bags separately.
Pink or blue?
Since myself and Mr Mitchell have been together, we had always talked about having a family. We were both so over the moon to be expecting our pea, we didn’t mind if they were a boy or girl. Many people asked if we had a preference, and the truth is I didn’t. I just wanted our baby to be healthy. However, I had always imagined my first child being a boy.
Deciding how to share our news was incredibly exciting. We decided after our private scan, at 7 weeks, that we were ready to tell our parents they were going to be grandparents! I found some lovely mugs with Nan and Granddad on and we surprised them with them. I was so excited to share our news, but also nervous. It started to feel very real and I knew we still had a little way to go before we were out of the first trimester. But they are our nearest and dearest, and we wanted to share our journey with them. I will never forget their faces, I don’t think they were expecting it and we couldn’t have asked for a better response. I loved showing them the picture of our little pea, even if I did have to show my Dad which part was which!
Growing a tiny human is exhausting!
12 precious weeks.
It feels like I’ve been pregnant for years…and yet at the same time it still feels like only yesterday we got that positive pregnancy test. Most people who don’t know me and are reading this (if that’s anyone apart from me!), will probably think I’m just starting my pregnancy, having only just started my blog. In fact, I’m currently 29 weeks pregnant and taking this chance to remember the journey I’ve come along. I’m trying to catch up before my baby arrives.
